MyRealSpeed is an independently operated speed-testing and broadband-education website. We are not owned by, sponsored by, or affiliated with any internet service provider, so we have no reason to make your connection look better or worse than it is. How the test works
When you press Start, your browser exchanges bursts of random data with our test server while we time the transfers. Download and upload speeds come from the amount of data moved per second; ping is the round-trip time of tiny messages; jitter is the variation between those round trips. We also measure latency while the connection is busy, which reveals bufferbloat — a common cause of choppy video calls that idle ping tests miss. The measurement engine is based on the open-source LibreSpeed project (LGPL-3.0), customized and operated by us.
Limitations you should know about
A browser test measures the path from your device to our server at one moment. Wi-Fi signal, other devices on your network, VPNs and proxies, browser extensions, device performance, server distance, and time of day all influence the result. One test is a snapshot; several tests at different times form a picture. Results here are estimates for personal use, not certified evidence — though a series of dated results is still useful when talking to your provider.
How our content is produced
Every guide on this site is written and reviewed by people, for readers — not generated in bulk to carry advertising.
